The Music Workshop Company Blog

Each month the Music Workshop Company publishes two blogs. One blog, written by the MWC team addresses a key issue in Music Education or gives information about a particular genre or period of music. The other blog is written by a guest writer, highlighting good practice or key events in Music Education. We hope you enjoy reading the blogs.

December 2020 marks the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.

The event seems to have split the Classical Music community.

Some individuals and organisations see the occasion as an opportunity to celebrate Beethoven’s musical achievements.

Others suggest that Beethoven’s music is popular enough and performances and recordings of it are already so plentiful that audiences should be exploring new repertoire and lesser known composers, and particularly work by underrepresented groups.
Maria and the Music Workshop Company Team are gearing up for the Rhinegold Music Education Expo, which will take place on March 12th and 13th at London’s Barbican Centre. This year we’re excited to be holding consultation sessions for clients, helping you get the most out of your music workshops.

We particularly love creating bespoke projects, understanding your needs and making a music workshop that absolutely fits the bill. Much of the recent emphasis on music and music education in the media falls on the lack of funding faced by professional musicians and music educators, and the failure to make space in the curriculum for this valuable educational area. MWC is passionate about music education, and determined to have a positive impact through music workshops.
We have just celebrated our tenth anniversary here at Music Workshop Company (MWC), and to mark this achievement, we are starting a blog! This will be a space to share our experiences, give you ideas for musical activities, and to write about the projects we do.

MWC was seMicia darabukat up by Maria Thomas in 2002, since when the company has worked with over 50,000 participants, from toddlers to grandparents, in schools, community groups and businesses all over the UK.
